In this week's lab meeting, we discussed Chernyak & Kushnir's (2018) paper, "The influence of understanding and having choice on children’s prosocial behavior". This paper explains how preschool children develop the ability to consider alternative possibilities and engage in counterfactual thinking. The paper details that from these developments, children then become able to reason about choice and agency in their own lives, which subsequently drives prosocial behaviour.
