The Childhood Learning and Development (ChiLD) Lab is led by Dr. Samuel Ronfard, Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Toronto at Mississauga.

We study how young children between 2- and 10-years-old learn and reason about the world. Some of our current research interests include

  • How children learn and reason about concepts and ideas that defy their intuitions or first-hand perceptions, for example, invisible entities like germs and oxygen and complex processes like evolution.

  • How children develop the ability to seek information through first-hand exploration and questions.

  • How children balance efficiency with accuracy when acquiring and transmitting information.
